Our History

Here’s a little bit of our history.  The Armstrong Spallumcheen Hospital Auxiliary (ASHA) founded in 1935 to mend sheets and gowns for the original hospital.

Our thrift store has had six moves to various locations around town.  The seventh move in 1963 was into the basement of the then legion building, which used to be the Co-op store.  The basement used to be a bowling alley.  We, the auxiliary members at the time referred to it as the “Glory Hole” or the “Gopher Hole” depending on our mood of the day.

In 1989 we became a registered as a Non-Profit Society in our own right and purchased the building we are in now.  Renovations to the “new to us” building were done by several local businesses.  We officially opened on April 1, 1990.  The original mortgage for the new building was 17 years but with impressive membership co-operation we paid it off in six years.  We celebrated with a mortgage burning ceremony in the spring of 1995.
In 2003 we were able to increase the bursaries to 4 for $1,000 each!

In 2021 we donated a total of $150,000 to various local business and organizations.  This was done with the help of your generosity and kindness.
And now here we are!  The Armstrong Spallumcheen Hospital Auxiliary has been working tirelessly for over 86 years to provide the community with a great place to shop!
